Purse Crime Prevention

Who can see your purse...

Reduce the risk of getting your handbag or its contents stolen.

πŸ‘› Never leave your bags unattended, particularly on shopping trolleys, on seats, on the floor in changing rooms, till areas or public toilets.
πŸ‘› Always be aware of people around you, it could be innocent that someone is reaching over you or asking you to pass an item off a shelf – but could you be being distracted?
πŸ‘› Carry your bag close to you with the clasp (if your bag has one) facing inwards.
πŸ‘› Keep it zipped up, and make sure your wallet, purse, or phone can’t be seen.
πŸ‘› Avoid carrying unnecessary valuables, documents containing personal information or large amounts of cash.
πŸ‘› With spring approaching why not, β€œspring clean” your handbag - imagine if precious personal items were lost - are they better stored at home?
πŸ‘› Spread your possessions about. For example, consider keeping your mobile phone separate from your keys and your store/credit cards separate from your purse. Use those extra inside pockets to protect your possessions.
πŸ‘› Consider the use of a handbag/purse alarm or bells - these are inexpensive and could alert you to someone trying to steal your purse or personal possessions. Keep your eye out for your Safer Neighbourhood Team will be out and about with some crime prevention goodies this week.
πŸ‘› Never carry your PIN with your cards. If you need to keep your PIN on your person – keep it logged in your mobile phone or a separate pocket.
πŸ‘› Only take out what you need. This includes when going to the bank – don’t withdraw all your money at once.

Be vigilant! It only takes a moment for you to lose your belongings.

Report any suspicious activity to the police on 101- in an emergency dial 999.
