Sussex Police Fortnightly Crime Trends and Call to Action


Dear Neighbourhood Watch Members

 

I trust that you are all well and enjoying those small glimpses of Spring and sunshine we get treated to every so often.

Please see below your fortnightly crime updates for Horsham for the period of the 4 April 2024 to the 18 April 2024. 

*Please be advised that where possible, a broad timeline of the incident has been provided.

 

Crime Reports

Burglary – There have been six reports of residential burglaries and garage break ins 

04/04 – York Close, Horsham – During the day, a person has knocked at the resident’s property asking if they had jewellery and presented the occupier with a ‘wad’ of cash. After asking if they could stand just inside the front door, the suspect followed the occupant to their bedroom, where a necklace was stolen. 

06/04 – Cowfold Road, West Grinstead – Property has been broken into around 8.30pm and high value items have been stolen. Occupants were on holiday at this time, but the alarm company had alerted police. 

10/04 – Church Lane, Southwater – Whilst occupants have been away on holiday, their property has been broken into via the rear patio door. It appears that the intruder has gained access to the rear garden over the back wall. 

15/04 – Braby Lane, Horsham – Bicycle was stolen from a garage whilst it was open during the day.

17/04 – Beech Road, Horsham – Property has been broken into overnight, whilst occupant was at home. Access was via the front door, where tools have been used to gain entry and a handbag and purse were stolen. 

17/04 – Holly Close, Horsham – Between the hours of 1am and 7am, property has been broken into, drawers have been searched and car keys moved. Vehicle was not stolen, but £20 has been stolen.

 

Burglary Prevention 

Please make sure your outbuildings and garages are locked and secure. We are continuing to investigate these burglaries and if you see anyone acting suspiciously around a property, please report it to us on 101 or 999 if you are witnessing a burglary in progress.

Protecting your home when on holiday

While people can enjoy more freedom away from their homes, they will be empty for longer periods of time and could be attractive to an opportunist burglar. Make it more difficult for burglars by ensuring you protect your home, belongings and by checking your outside security.

Vehicle Crime – There have been six reports of vehicle crime.

04/04 – Sandy Lane, Watersfield – Antique tractor (not used for modern farming) has been stolen overnight.

08/04 – Mousdell Close, Ashington – Around 2.30am, two males attempted to break into two vans that were parked on the road. After being disturbed by a neighbour, they left the scene. 

05/04 – Fivens Place, Horsham – Someone has approached a car on a driveway and tried the door handle to see if the vehicle is unlocked. The suspect left when they found they could not gain access, with the incident occurring around 3.05am.

08/04 – Stane Street, Pulborough – Overnight, a registration number plate has been stolen from a car.

10/04 – St Mary’s Close, Billingshurst – Rear registration number plate has been stolen from a vehicle, which occurred overnight. 

17/04 – Littleworth Lane, Partridge Green – Between the 12/04 and the 14/04, the panoramic roof on a car had been smashed.
