One of the best parts of being a Community Police Officer is visiting schools and talking to the children, It helps build a foundation in the community and allows the children to ask about policing and what we do, I was pleased when the Lantern Academy asked me to do a talk on crime and investigation. I set up a mock crime scene and the children became investigators, there was great enthusiasm and some good questions. We looked at what is good evidence and how it is used in an investigation, the children learned about forensics and what is forensic evidence, I explained about interviewing suspects and how to ask questions, the children were really interested in this, Finally we discussed how court rooms operate and made a decision on the outcome of the investigation.
