Alert Regarding Recent Burglaries in Weald and Chipstead Areas

Dear Resident,

I would like to bring to your attention a handful of burglaries in the Weald and Chipstead areas.

Late Afternoon/Early Evening of 16th November: Two properties in the Chipstead area were broken into resulting in the theft of various items.

Late Afternoon/Early Evening 17th November: Two properties in the Weald area experienced break ins with similar outcomes.

In each instance, the offenders have forced entry through rear windows or double doors, targeting cash and high value personal belongings. Given the reduction in daylight hours I urge everyone to be extra vigilant in the run up to Christmas.

To prevent falling victim to these crimes, I would strongly recommend considering some of these crime prevention measures:

Timed Lighting: Use timers for indoor and outdoor lights to give the impression that someone is home even when you are out.

Curtain Control: Close curtains or blinds to prevent potential burglars from seeing inside your home and identifying valuable items.

Alarm Systems: Invest in an audible alarm system that triggers when someone attempts to break in, alerting neighbours and scaring off intruders.

Remote Monitoring: Consider smart home security systems that allow remote monitoring via your smartphone, giving you the ability to check in on your property while away.

Landscaping: Trim shrubbery and bushes near doors and windows to eliminate hiding spots for potential intruders.

Secure Entry Points: Ensure all doors and windows are locked securely especially when away from home.

CCTV: Consider installing CCTV, this will act as a deterrent and greatly assist police if there is an investigation

Lighting: Consider motion-sensor lights as a deterrent.

Neighbourhood Watch: Stay connected with neighbours, report suspicious activities and encourage neighbours to sign up to MCV.

Valuables Safety: Keep valuables out of sight and consider investing in a safe for high value items.

Remember, the goal is to make your home appear occupied and to create obstacles that discourage burglars from targeting your property.
