Violence Against Women and Girls- Accosting Operation

Maidstone Town Centre Team have been working towards improving female safety on the road networks. We have run 4 successful operations to date.

The op is run where by a female plain clothed officer will walk along the road and if they are subjected to any inappropriate behaviour from those in vehicles; the vehicle will be stopped by uniformed officers plotted up on the road. The driver and passengers will then be issued a community protection warning and intelligence put onto their vehicle. We believe that behaviour such as honking at females, shouting at them or even stopping to talk to them have a huge effect on how safe women feel in public.

The idea behind the operation is to make people think twice before making someone feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Everyone deserves to feel safe when out and about. The operation is a step to combat low level sexual behaviour and hold those account who think it is acceptable.
