Kenilworth SNT - Road Safety Day of Action

Following concern raised by the local community, Kenilworth and Warwick Rural Police conducted a Road Safety Day of Action with support from Kenilworth Community Speed Watch group. The purpose of today's activity was to raise awareness, engage with and educate motorists, having enforcement as an option. CSW volunteers carried out speed monitoring at an existing site of community concern, whilst SNT officers/PCSOs carried out roadside education and enforcement at other locations, some of which were existing community concern sites.

Speed monitoring/checks were conducted on 6 roads in the Kenilworth and Burton Green area.

• 5 motorists were stopped and educated at the roadside.

• 15 motorists will receive warning letters.

Whilst conducting a check on Bridge Street (30mph) in Kenilworth a motorbike was recorded travelling at 55mph. The rider ignored a pedestrian crossing and junctions with side streets. The rider then failed to stop and rode through red traffic lights, all whilst gesturing with their hand. We’ll be following this up in due course.

Failure to comply with the speed limit is not simply about fines and endorsements; education and raising awareness are also key. Reducing traffic speed will directly contribute to saving lives and improving the quality of life for persons in our communities. Albeit speed reduction/prevention activity does not form part of our daily SNT chores, where possible we will do our part to keep roads safe where you live, work and travel.

Thanks goes to the local community volunteers who give up their time to make your community a safer place to be.

Please note, we were not out fundraising for our Christmas party.
