South Leicester Police - Crime Prevention Advice.

Dear South Leicester Resident,

You are receiving the following email as a resident living on the Freemen Police Beat.

With the clocks set to go back this Sunday (27/10/2024) we would like to remind all residents to consider measures to keep your home safe and to take steps now to prevent opportunistic thieves. As the nights become darker earlier sadly, we do see an increase in burglaries at residential addresses, please see below some useful advice and information that you can follow to prevent your home being targeted.

  • Ensure that your burglar alarms are operational by conducting a test, this also applies to any CCTV you may have check that they are recording and that video doorbells are charged and positioned correctly.
  • Consider using timer switches to ensure lights come on in the evening to make your home look occupied if you are out.
  • Fit your shed, garage, or any outside buildings you may have with a secure and durable lock.
  • Reconsider leaving notes when you are not in for postal workers and delivery drivers on where to leave parcels as this will advertise that you’re not at home.
  • Before heading off to bed double check that windows and doors at both the front and back of your home are locked.
  • Ensure that items such as house/car keys as well as other valuables are out of sight and away from your doors and windows.
  • Officers from the local team will be out conducting high visibility patrols over the winter months and please do report any suspicious behaviour to us but please do consider the above and other preventative measures.
