Yesterday, a Community Alert was sent warning residents to be wary of people going door-to-door selling Poppies on behalf of The Royal British Legion. This was due to us receiving a number of calls reporting these suspicious circumstances to us. The Royal British Legion were spoken to, and they confirmed that they do not have any volunteers going door-to-door this year. However, I have since spoken to a volunteer who has stated that there are genuine volunteers selling poppies door-to-door.
All volunteers will have a Certificate of Authority and will be only too happy to show this certificate when asked.
If in doubt, you can always go to The Royal British Legion website to donate and be safe in the knowledge that your donation is going to the poppy appeal and towards supporting their Armed Forces community.
The last thing that Gloucestershire Constabulary wish to do is to cause alarm or distress to any of our residents who have a collector at their door or for The Royal British Legion to miss out on donations. We apologise for any confusion.
