On patrol in Hadley and Leegomery

Wellington Police Station

First job of the day was to replace the front tyre on the police car after it developed a puncture, we can travel at high speeds so tyre safety is important.

Hadley to Sutton Hill!

I was not intending to travel to Sutton Hill however as I left the tyre shop I saw a driver in a Renault Clio, this went on to the A442 Queensway, a fast road and not ideal for a traffic stop,  then I noticed the the vehicle driving erratically. As the car traveled in the right-hand lane of the two lane A road,  I immediately noticed the driver was not wearing a seat belt - a clear traffic violation.  After following the length of the A442 I came to a safe place to activate my blue lights and siren,  the driver seemed oblivious until pulled alongside and I signaled the vehicle to stop.

During the traffic stop, routine checks revealed the driver was operating the vehicle on a provisional licence without displaying the mandatory L plates. This compounded the initial traffic infractions and raised serious road safety concerns.

Under established police powers, I seized the vehicle, ensuring an immediate removal of the potentially dangerous driver from the road. The driver was subsequently reported for multiple traffic offenses, demonstrating proactive policing that prioritizes public safety.

Hadley issues

I attended a street where children playing had escalated to a neighbour dispute, football can cause issues if the ball hits property and having lived with the anxiety of a football constantly hitting my living room window, I have a level of sympathy.

Families are reluctant to let the children play on a nearby park because of concerns about safety.  Not an easy fix.

However communication in a calm and rational way has led to a compromise.  I will see how that goes

Call for back up Wellington

One of the things that captures your attention is a call for backup! I heard a PCSO say over the radio that he had come across two teenagers smoking cannabis and they refused to stop,  I and another officer from Wellington arrived and conducted a stop search. Cannabis is a class B drug and often called a gateway drug, although in this case they had ditched the cannabis cigarettes', they still had a cannabis grinder, a referral was made and words of advice was given.

Leegomery

I still had time to do some patrol work in Leegomery after the paperwork, incidentally there will be some fireworks later and i ask that any home displays are done safely

stay safe

Thanks

Rob
