Round-up of our recent patrols to address ASB

Dear Resident,

Our dedicated patrols to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Peterborough have continued and we have been up to a lot since our last update!

We have spent a lot of time engaging with different businesses across the city, including doing patrols of Maskew Avenue, Bourges Boulevard and Brotherhood retail parks. Following reports of shops in Eastfield being given counterfeit bank notes, we went and spoke to them – the necessary crimes have been raised and enquiries into the matter are ongoing. Modern slavery checks were completed at a car wash, where no concerns were raised on this occasion. While on a patrol of Queensgate shopping centre, we even bumped in to a little bear who loves marmalade sandwiches.

During these patrols, we have taken the time to check on the homeless members of our community and pass them on to agencies who can provide them with support. We attended an area next to Mattressman in Lincoln Road, Millfield, and a tent in Dogsthorpe, to talk to the individuals who were living there but no one was there. In addition to this, we moved on some people who were in a private car park in Viersen Platz and outside Asda in Rivergate. If you have concerns for a homeless individual, you can pass it on to the council’s outreach team here.

We found seven Nitrous Oxide (NOS) cannisters discarded in the cark park next to the play area in Norman Road, Eastfield. Nitrous Oxide is now classed as a class C drug and anyone found to be in possession of it may face prosecution. We were also made aware of some drugs which had been left outside Morrisons in Bretton, which have now been seized. Any information about drug use or dealing can be reported to us on our website.

Our efforts to tackle illegal parking and vehicle offences have continued during these patrols, with parking tickets issued in St Martins Street, Highbury Street, and Waterloo Road in Millfield, and Albert Place in the city centre. We also stopped a car in Millfield over the weekend and gave the driver words of advice about her poor driving. While driving to our next patrol area, we came across a broken down vehicle along the Fletton Parkway and stopped to help.

Over the recent months, we have updated you on our enforcement of the Public Spaces Protection Orders which cover the city centre and parts of Millfield. This enforcement has continued with us moving on a group of people in Victoria Gardens in Millfield, and St Peters Arcade, Long Causeway and Broadway in the city centre.

A big part of our patrols is engaging with the community. We have popped in and spoken to the staff at the Boulevard Club, Conservative Club, and Burghley Club, who all gave such positive feedback! On Friday night, we bumped into a tourist from Hungary who told us of his aspiration to become a police officer and saw so many people out celebrating Halloween in the city centre.

Other things of note from our patrols include:

  • Giving words of advice to a landlord after residents expressed concerns about the build-up of rubbish behind the old Mansfield snooker club
  • Found and cleared various items including a numberplate in the bushes of Occupation Park in Millfield
  • Engaged with an elderly man in Bretton after some teenagers expressed their concerns about him. Fortunately, all was well and he thanked us for checking in.
  •

If you have any concerns about ASB in your area, you can report it to us online.

    Kind regards,
