You Said, We did - ASB

Hello Resident

We are working hard to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Grangetown

Following reports of ASB within these areas officers in Grangetown, Cardiff, have been given extra powers to prevent gatherings, illegal use of fireworks and associated anti-social behaviour over the Halloween period

The order is a preventative measure following a number of reports over this month involving persons of note throwing fireworks at members of the community and associated anti-social behaviour.

A 48-hour dispersal order, which is granted under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014, is in place from 18.00hrs on Monday 4th November until 18:00 on Wednesday 6th November 2024.

Under Section 35 of the Act, police officers can instruct anybody who is causing, or is likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress to leave the area as illustrated in the map.
Officers will also have the power to seize any property which they suspect is being used to cause anti-social behaviour.

The order is a preventative measure following a number of reports over this month involving persons of note throwing fireworks at members of the community and associated anti-social behaviour.

Acting Inspector Samantha Johnson from South Wales Police said: “The dispersal order is in place over the next 48 hours as a preventative measure. We will have an increased presence in Butetown and officers won’t hesitate to enforce the extra powers afforded to them in order to keep the community safe. We urge parents and guardians to speak to their young people about not getting involved in anti social behaviour. Please also check who they are associating with, what they are doing and where they are.”

South Wales Police has a zero-tolerance approach to anti social behaviour and this dispersal order is just one example of the work we are doing.

We can, and regularly do, act upon the information provided to us by the public, so please keep it coming.
Anyone with suspicions or information about illegal activities in their area are urged to contact us.

Thank you for your help. It is only by the police and the public working together that we can prevent and detect crime.

Anti-social behaviour covers a wide range of unacceptable activity that causes harm to an individual, to their community or to their environment. This could be an action by someone else that leaves you feeling alarmed, harassed, or distressed. It also includes fear of crime or concern for public safety, public disorder, or public nuisance.
