Push Payment Scams

 Hello

I recently received the enclosed information – explaining how victims of ‘Push Payment Scams’ may be able to claim a reimbursement, in certain circumstances, please note it only relates to incidents on or after 7 October 2024.

It explains who may be eligible for a reimbursement and how to claim.

A Push Payment scam is when you are tricked by a criminal into sending money by bank payment to an account they control.

The booklet also includes guidance on how to avoid such scams.

  • Take your time when making payments, make sure you are 100% happy about who you are paying and how much. Don’t be pressured into payments.
  • Don’t be rushed by ‘one-time offers’ ‘best deal ever’ etc
  • Do your research, be suspicious if something looks too good to be true.
  • Banks, police etc will never ask you to move money to a ‘safe account’
  • For more information contact the Crime Prevention Team via edinburghpreventandintervent@edinburgh.police.uk
