Dear Resident

It looks like the overnight temperatures this week will dip below freezing, which means you may have to allow extra time to defrost your vehicle. Every winter, cars are stolen from driveways across Walsall. Thieves are looking for unattended vehicles with keys in the ignition. Please stay with your vehicle whilst your windscreen defrosts.

Here is a round-up of what has been happening in Willenhall South, New Invention, and Short Heath over the last couple of weeks.

  • Our efforts to tackle ASB in Willenhall Town Centre have been positive and we have seen a reduction in incidents reported to police. We will continue with our patrols and engage with local businesses and retailers and resident.
  • We continue to work with our partners to tackle incidents of ASB taking place in the Western Ave area. We have increased our patrols and have arranged for a dome hawk camera to be installed by the shops. We will continue our patrols in this area and take appropriate action against anyone carrying out ASB or committing offences.
  • Last week we supported #Sceptre week, a national campaign to raise awareness of knife crime. We carried out a weapon sweep in Willenhall Memorial Park, which resulted in no weapons being found. We also visited The Loft Youth Club to speak to young people about the dangers of knife crime.
  • Last week we attended The Remembrance Parade in Willenhall town centre and Short Heath. The weather was lovely and it was great to see a good turnout at both parades.
  • Crimes & Crime Prevention

There have been a number of vehicle related crimes taking place over the last couple of weeks, whilst these crimes will be investigated, we would like to remind residents of the prevention measure they can take to reduce this happening to you.

  • It may seem obvious, but a large proportion of thefts occur from unlocked vehicles. Check for the signs. Did the lights flash and alarm beep? Are the doors and windows closed?
  • Keep your keys away from windows and doors
  • A steering lock can help stop thieves taking your vehicle. You can purchase steering locks online or in your local auto centre. Additional physical security can help to prevent your vehicle being driven away even if a thief gains entry. There are a range of security rated products tested by Sold Secure that can help, such as steering wheel locks, pedal boxes and gear stick locks.
  • If your car has Keyless Entry and Start (PKES), it can be stolen by ‘Relay Attack’ Put the keys in a screened or signal-blocking pouch, such as a Faraday Bag and check if the bag or pouch is still working every few months.
  • Visit our crime prevention website where you will find a wealth of information and advice to help protect your vehicle

You can also find information related to a number of other crime types to help keep you, your loved ones and your property safe, visit: https://www.westmidlands.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/

    A big thank you
