Fake United Utilities Caller

Bogus callers take advantage of vulnerable residents and can imitate various utilities and service providers.  Recently, it has been reported that a male has been claiming to be from United Utilities needing to check the water pressure.

Customers should be aware that United Utilities staff members always carry photo identification cards, but even they can be faked.

You can check anyone claiming to be from United Utilities by calling 0345 6723 723.

These types of callers often use persuasive or aggressive tactics to get people to agree to have work carried out and then charge far more than was quoted for poor quality work or goods.

Trading Standards advice is to always say 'no' to cold callers and people are asked to look out for elderly or vulnerable family, friends, and neighbours.

If you have been cold called or wish to report an incident, please contact us on 101. Alternatively you can report online at https://doitonline.lancashire.uk

You can also contact Crime Stoppers which is an independent UK charity that is set up to give you the power to speak up to stop crime 100% anonymously at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
