Rogue Trader

Hi All,

We have had a report of a rogue trader in the area claiming to do work on roofs. Please remember to not let any tradesmen into your property unless you have requested repairs yourself either through a company or a trusted source and always verify who they are via identification badges or certification. Even if someone claims to be from a company you can always ring them and confirm the details provided before making any further decisions.

Also if you do have any unwanted traders claiming to be from a specific company please ring that company and let them know that members of their staff are being impersonated so that they can take extra precautions to protect their staff and customers.

Officers are carrying out enquiries, but we are encouraging people to be vigilant and be mindful of elderly and vulnerable neighbours who may be seen as targets by possible rogue traders.

How to prevent doorstep crime:

  • If you are not sure who is at the door, don’t open it.

  • Check the identity of any caller. Do not call any numbers they give you.

  • Tell them to come back at a time when someone will be at home with you.

  • Before opening one door, make sure all other door and windows are locked and closed.

  • If the caller is selling something or says that you need work carrying out tell them you are not interested and ask them to leave. Genuine, reputable firms won’t need to drum up business by cold calling.

  • Please stay safe and vigilant.
