Today, Monday 25 November is White Ribbon Day. A day to mark the movement of ending male violence against women. Violence and abuse, in any form, will not be tolerated and we stand with White Ribbon to encourage people to speak out, be counted, and say no to violence, abuse and harassment against women and girls. This week, as a White Ribbon accredited force, our officers will be out and about alongside partnering agencies, youth groups and charities engaging with local communities and attending events across the area. Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin said: “Our dedicated teams from across our force are deeply committed to ending male violence against women. “We need women and girls to feel safe and listened to in coming forward and our specialist trained officers work closely with partnering agencies across the region to support victims, prevent further crimes and bring perpetrators of domestic violence and abuse to justice. “We must all work to change this culture and take shared responsibility in addressing and calling out violence, abuse, and harassment. “Policing domestic abuse presents significant challenges, but with the collective effort of our community we can make a meaningful difference. Together we can ensure that victims are heard, supported, and protected, and create a community of respect and safety for everyone. “It is really important for victims to know that anyone can experience domestic abuse and it is never okay. “We take all reports of domestic abuse extremely seriously and are committed to working with our partners and communities to ensure those affected feel safe, and live free from violence and abuse.” If you or someone you know is suffering domestic abuse of violence in any form, I would urge you to please come forward. You can contact us on our non-emergency 101 number or always call 999 in an emergency. Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, you can report via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. | ||||
