Here is your quick round up from me and the rest of the Sherbourne neighbourhood policing team.

Dear Resident,
Here is your quick round up from me and the rest of the Sherbourne neighbourhood policing team.

What’s been happening?

This week saw a real result in relation to vehicles & vehicle crime. A number of vehicles have been seized or recovered this week across our team’s neighbourhood area. Over the past 6 days we have had Four stolen vehicles located. Three of these were cars found abandoned or hidden at different locations. Whilst these vehicles have been stolen from various areas around the city and sometimes other force areas locating them can sometimes lead to identification of offenders from follow up CCTV enquires of the area or forensic opportunities in the vehicle. The fourth vehicle was a motorbike. This was spotted being pushed by a male who ran when he spotted the marked police vehicle. The officers were able to give chase and catch the male. The motorbike was confirmed stolen so the male was arrested for theft or the vehicle and going equipped as the male was found to have tools on him.

We have recovered two vehicles for having no Tax. One of these was a van that was bought to our attention by a member of the public whilst dealing with something else. We were informed that the van was involved in illegal activity and being used on a regular basis and then parked up around a specific area. We were able to locate the vehicle and seize it as it was showing expired vehicle tax from July 2024. This was a great opportunity to remove a vehicle from use by potential criminals and also boost our intelligence coming into the force. Officers have also managed to seize three vehicles for having no insurance whilst on patrols. Officers will often patrol areas of high crime or interest and checks can be made on vehicles in these areas. Although not all these vehicles are used in crime often motoring offences become apparent and these will be dealt with by the officers.

Apart from the great results in relation to vehicle crime we have also been busy with are normal neighbourhood policing activity. This carries a wide range of activities each week and although not all of them will make it into the roundup at the end of the week they still help to address ongoing issues such as ASB, Shoplifting, vehicle crime and other offences.
