Missing person found

Today at around 4:30pm we received a call to say that an elderly relative with dementia had gone missing from her home on Derby West, after planning to travel to South Derbyshire to visit a friend. She didn't arrive and a relative called us from out of the county to report her missing. She said she could see signs for a carriageway and some fields but was somewhere in South Derbyshire and was cold. with temperatures expected to drop to minus figures tonight it was imperative she was found fast, with some searches for missing people taking hours, especially at night.

Despite it not being our teams beat area, PC's Bennett and Millward knew the area well, and just from the description of the carriageway sign, managed to locate the junction she would be at and found her, in around 15 minutes after deploying. Officers from South Derbyshire had also joined the search.

She was safely transported home for a warm by our officers, who will give her the appropriate safeguarding, as well discussing a form called The Herbert Protocol with her and family, to ensure if she does go missing again, the emergency services can visit locations familiar to her faster. For more information about Herbert protocol please follow the below link:

Many thanks,
