Do you know how to spot the signs of cuckooing?
We've been working closely within the community to help keep vulnerable people safe from being victims of exploitation. Cuckooing is one of the types of exploitation that has a really harmful impact on vulnerable people and is when criminals take over a person’s home to use it to store or distribute drugs.
Here are some of the signs to look out for:
➡️ An increase in people entering and leaving the property, especially at strange times ➡️ Frequent visitors at unsociable hours ➡️ Changes in a person’s daily routine ➡️ Suspicious, or unfamiliar vehicles outside an address
If we suspect a vulnerable person is being cuckooed, we'll begin the process of working with local partners to put relevant safeguarding support in place to protect them from being a victim. We've also been able to help victims install CCTV at their address as well as security systems and lighting.
If something doesn't look quite right - please report it. Together, we can make sure Plymouth remains a safe place to live, work and visit.
