Hi,
Over the past couple of weeks, we have seen an increase in burglaries and thefts of vehicles or trailers. This has been largely across the South East Corner of Northumberland. As Blyth falls into this area, I am asking that people take care with their homes and properties. The offences include thefts of trailers on driveways, from farms or in the street. As well as persons entering homes, stealing car keys and making off with high value vehicles. Police are working hard to identify and prosecute those involved, however there are some things you can do in order to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of crime. Some are very simple, but make it likely those responsible will move on. So please;
- Lock your doors and windows, do not leave keys in the locks and ensure they are out of sight. - Ensure your vehicle is parked in a lit area and that you have locked it appropriately. If your vehicle uses keyless entry, ensure you use an RFID box or bag to prevent the signal being intercepted. - Keep vehicle keys away from the obvious spots such as directly next to your front or rear door. - Utilise security lights, steering locks, tow bar locks and/or other preventative equipment. - If you see or hear something that isn't right, call police on 101 or 999.
These are only a few ways, but more intended to ensure people are aware to secure their property and remain vigilante. If you would like any additional information around crime prevention, please visit Crime prevention advice | Northumbria Police
