Commercial Break-In Series

The Poole Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) have identified several commercial break-ins in the Branksome area within the last several days which may possibly be linked - The modus operandi (method of working) appears to be the breaking of windows or doors to enter property.

We scan for crimes using mapping software and identify information that can potentially link a series of crimes together. This is why it is essential to report crimes as soon as they have been identified with as much information as possible.

Whilst these reports are under investigation, we urge business owners to revisit their security and update where applicable/possible. The National Business Crime Centre (NBCC) has provided the following crime prevention advice to assist business owners with preventing break-ins:

πŸ”’ When you are closed, protect stock and cash by removing items from window displays. Leave empty tills open and reduce the amount of stock in storerooms.

πŸ”’ Deter with CCTV, dusk to dawn lighting and controlling vehicle access to delivery areas.

πŸ”’ Burglars may be deterred if you display evidence that you have an alarm. Others may be scared off if they hear an alarm whilst breaking in. In addition to alarms consider smoke cloak devices and DNA marking.

πŸ”’ Laminated glass - This is very difficult to break through in a β€˜smash and grab’ attack because it is made by bonding a layer of tough plastic between sheets of glass, and this will hold the window together even after the glass has broken...

πŸ”’ A good quality safe will protect cash and valuable items overnight but you should take the added precaution of bolting it in place and positioning it discreetly
