Team update

Dear resident

Hope you are all well and having a good start to your week.

Here’s a quick roundup from your local policing team of some of the work we have been doing over the couple of weeks in the Blakenall/Leamore/Birchills and Beechdale area.

  •  Patrols will be conducted in the area of Stephenson Square and Cavendish Road in Beechdale, this is in response to reports of anti-social behaviour. Reports received include the finding of nitrous oxide cannisters and small fires being set. We ask all residents to please report these matters in the first instance to 101 and live chat or in the event of an emergency 999.  Please provide as much information as possible. If the people causing these issues can be identified then we will act. The team will be conducting hi visibility patrols for reassurance and anyone caught causing ASB will be dealt with accordingly.
  • Our PCSO’s are currently in the process of setting up further community meetings in the Blakenall and Leamore areas, these will be in addition to the Beechdale community meetings that have been taking place in the previous months at the Frank F Community Centre- Stephenson Sq. These meetings will be a chance for residents to raise issues but also work together with local partner agencies in dealing with these issues. These meetings will be essentially for the local residents and ran by local residents.
  • Please encourage family and friends to sign up to the WM NOW service as we will continue to post about up and coming events via this service.
  • With the darker nights we also ask that people are taking safety measures while riding pushbikes, members of the team have seen riders out and about with no high visibility clothing on, no lights on the bikes and dressed all in dark clothing, this puts you at high risk of accidents occurring.
  • For further information please see Cycle safety | West Midlands Police

Electrical scooters- Whilst these may seem like good Christmas gifts please be aware of the following-

  • Electric Scooters (also known as e-scooters) come under the category of 'powered transporters'. This covers a range of personal transport devices that are powered by a motor.
  • E-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988. This means the rules that apply to motor vehicles, also apply to e-scooters including the need to have a licence and insurance.
  • It's not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters. This means it’s illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces, such as parks, street pavements, and shopping centres.
  • If you use a privately-owned e-scooter in public, you risk the vehicle being seized under S.165 Road Traffic Act 1988 for having no insurance.
  • If you cause serious harm to another person whilst riding an e-scooter, the incident will be investigated in the same way it would if you were riding a motorcycle or driving a car.
  • Further information can be found at- Advice on e-scooter usage | West Midlands Police
