Good Evening You may recall we wrote to you regarding a number of burglaries that occurred in the Tonge Moor / Tonge Fold area in the weeks before Christmas.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank those of you who checked CCTV cameras etc and got in touch regarding possible footage - this has been really useful to the investigation and has lead to further offences being identified. As a result of the investigation work Bolton's Neighbourhood Crime Team, local Neighbourhood and Response officers have identified four offenders and have secured numerous charges relating to Burglary offences in Bolton including those in Tonge Moor & Tonge Fold. I would like to thank you all for your support and assistance with this investigation at what is a busy time of the year for everyone. A key theme in these burglaries has been the utilisation of lock-snapping techniques to gain entry. We urge all residents to check the types of locks fitted to their doors to ensure they are of anti-snap type. This applies equally to new and old doors and locks.
Euro Cylinder locks can easily be upgraded to reduce the vulnerability to lock snapping with anti-snap cylinders being available from as little as £20 per unit, these can often be quickly and simply be replaced yourself by simply removing a single screw. Many manufactures and retailers offer online video guides.
Please also find attached the current GMP leaflet regarding Lock snapping and crime reduction advice.
Officers from the neighbourhood teams are working hard to bring those responsible for these offences to justice and increasing our vigilance in the affected areas.
Please remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to 999 or 101 promptly.
