Burbage Police. Brookside Incidents, Suspicious Characters And School Parking.

Hello Resident,

We hope you are well. Here is an update for recent days in Burbage.

Reported Crime and Appeals

  • Report of an attempt residential Burglary on Brookside (near Far Lash) at around 16:35 on Thursday 9th January. It appears 3 young males have attended a property, and one has tried to enter in fear of their own safety. It appears there has then been a conversation between the 3 youths, where a Canadian Goose coat was exchanged between them. Officers attended immediately and completed extensive area searches. We have completed follow up work to try and identify those involved and the exact circumstances of this incident. If you have any information that could help us resolve what went on, please pop me an email to darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

  • We received a report on the 10th of January that at around 16:30 on the 9th, a female was followed along Brookside (by the Chip shop). The reported behaviour and comments made by the male has caused concern. We are completing some CCTV checks in the area but again, if you have any information, get in touch. 25000018703

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

Over recent days, we have been working with partner agencies in relation to concerns such as suspicious behaviour, Cannabis use and vehicle related issues. We have also spent time locally investigating the above reported incidents to try and identify those involved.

Patrols include locations such as Rugby Road park, Brookside Park, Featherston Drive and the Herald Way area.

We have been speaking to local residents regarding issues around school areas due to dangerous parking and lack of road safety from parents attending schools. We continue to complete patrols when resource allows, and we are trying to encourage local schools to push road safety messages, and activities in the area. Some of the behaviour from motorists this week has been inconsiderate to local residents and potentially dangerous, we urge parents with children to ensure they are using resources such as the lollipop man/lady, rather than crossing further down the road to save 30 seconds. Keeping children safe outside school is everyone's responsibility, so we ask for support with this.

We are dealing with local shops to address shoplifting. Work such as arrests, collecting CCTV and completing statements. We visit local shops where there are issues, to ensure these crimes are reported correctly and ensure these reports are dealt with in a productive manner.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

Due to a few observations we have made whilst out on patrols, please ensure that if you are away from your property (Holiday/work), PLEASE organise for parcels to be taken in by a trusted friend/neighbour, if they are dumped outside your front door for days it will appear that you are not there (also more likely your parcel could get taken). Please use light timers and get a neighbour to park on your drive.

Whilst out and about, it has also been noticed the number of cyclists without bicycle lights. These are often younger children. If you have kids or grandchildren who ride bikes to/from school, please have a word. We have previously visited local schools and fitted lights to bikes to support with this issue. I have a few small sets at the office if needed, drop me an email.

If you live around Sapcote Road, The Meadows, Winchester Drive area, please be aware that Leicestershire Fire and Rescue, HBBC and Police will be completing some work (community engagement/door knocks) in this area on the 16th of January between around 09:00-16:00, following a house fire on Sapcote Road which occurred on the 20/12/2024. Agencies will be wearing ID. We will also hopefully be utilising the Meadows community house.
