Dear Resident

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with vehicle interference in Watford.

Officers were called at around 1.45pm on Monday (13 January) to report a man trying vehicle door handles in Franklin Avenue.

Chris Debono, aged 36, of Hemming Way, Watford, was arrested and subsequently charged with interfering with a motor vehicle and fraud by false representation.

Debono was also charged with theft from a motor vehicle which occurred on 10 January in Chestnut Walk. It was reported that a pair of Samsung earbuds were stolen from the vehicle.

He was remanded and appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday 15 January) where he was released on conditional bail to reappear at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on 10 February.

Inspector Dan Jones, from the Watford Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I’d like to remind residents to please ensure you always lock your vehicles and remove all valuables like wallets, handbags, purses and credit cards.

“Neighbourhood officers continue to identify vehicles that have been left insecure by their owners and offer timely advice to ensure they are locked.

“Lots of information about steps you can take to protect your vehicles can be found on the Herts Police website.”
