Why we do our job

Today has been a mixed day for PCSO Miller from Maidenhead Central Team.

I was due to attend Crown Court next week for a criminal trial in which my contribution was identifying two suspects for multiple burglaries over a Christmas break a year or 2 ago. This took place at a school for children with special needs.

Despite having limited dealings with the suspects over a several years period, I was confident I recognised them from the circulated still images at the time.

A vast amount of police work from various departments contributed to this case and all colleagues were equally appalled by the crime which had a hufe financial loss to the school.

Today I found out I wouldn't need to attend court as both have finally pleaded guilty and they face a lengthy sentence behind bars.

In a 2nd job this evening along with several police colleagues we responded to a fear for welfare report by a neighbour of an elderly lady who lives alone in the river area of Maidenhead.

She hadn't been seen for days, due to my local knowledge and recent visits to see her, I was able to try to message and call her and when she didn't respond I knew something was wrong. We attended straight away and put her door in, fortunately for the female she was alive but had fallen approx 3 days ago and was unable to get up. If  left any longer and this could have been a very different outcome.

She has been taken to hospital but was OK in general and appreciated all our actions - lucky for her she has great neighbours who knew something wasn't right and called us

Please check on any elderly or vulnerable neighbours you may have, it may just save their lives.

It's jobs like these that are the reason I am in the police and love my job

Enjoy your weekend
