Protecting your vehicles

Dear Residents,

A friendly reminder to protect your vehicles with some advice to deter potential thieves:

• Hide your car keys away from windows and doors or take them up to bed with you

• If you are planning on going on holiday or will be leaving your property unoccupied for a period of time, consider leaving your car keys with a trusted neighbour or relative and where possible block your vehicles on driveways

• Ensure your doors and windows are locked, and if you have a chain on the inside of your door, use it.

• Use a signal-blocking (Faraday) pouch for your car keys

• Do not leave your vehicle left running and unattended - particularly in the current season, waiting for ice to clear from windscreens.

• If you are in doubt, double-check and make sure you have locked your vehicle. For cars with wing-mirrors that fold in when the car is locked, make sure this is the case that you have locked the car, otherwise it is something that can be noticed by thieves to make your car a target.

If you see someone trying to break in to a vehicle, please call 999.

Many thanks,

Witney Neighbourhood Police Team
