Beggars on St Albans Road

Dear Resident

We are aware of a number of persons begging on St Albans Road, Watford, most commonly in the area immediately outside Tesco Express.

Some of these persons display signs stating that they require money to get a night in the hostel, off the cold streets where they are sleeping rough.

Please be advised that all persons we're aware of who are begging at this location already have council-provided accommodation and are in full receipt of the benefits to which they are entitled.

They have been warned by police to stop this behaviour but they continue nonetheless. Further action will be considered.

We would urge you not to give money to these persons as it encourages them to continue their behaviour, which is illegal under English law.

Kind regards,

PC 887 Hartlett-Cheung
