Dear Road User,
It has been highlighted that some road users are not taking Mini-Roundabouts correctly in the Rural North area with roundabouts in St Martins and Weston Rhyn falling foul of some poor driving manoeuvres. Observing vehicles using these mini-roundabouts it was clear to see that some would cut across them or cut them out altogether. As a result of this issue a number of vehicles were stopped last month, with drivers warned and educated about their roundabout manoeuvres.
Poor driving manoeuvres, as could be expected, can cause confusion, unexpected directions of travel and collisions with other vehicles, road users or pedestrians crossing at junctions. Within the highway code it states that road users must approach these mini-roundabouts in the same way as normal roundabouts. All vehicles MUST pass round the central markings except large vehicles which are physically incapable of doing so. Remember, there is less space to manoeuvre and less time to signal and to avoid making U-turns at mini-roundabouts, whilst being aware of others doing this.
Failure to manoeuvre around these mini-roundabouts correctly is an offence and if caught could result in a fixed penalty notice with a fine of £50. Continued failure to comply with the mini-roundabout could result in further prosecution exceeding that previously issued. Please use these Mini-Roundabouts correctly to avoid collisions, fines and speaking to myself or a colleague. Please drive safely.
