Prolific shoplifter jailed

A prolific shoplifter who stole more than £160-worth of wine from businesses in Leek town centre has been jailed for a year.

Daniel Standell, 32, of no fixed address, appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday 14 January, where he pleaded guilty to nine charges of theft from a shop and assaulting an emergency service worker.

He was also given a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), which bans him from entering the Co-op and Derby Street in Leek.

Standell stole a total of £162-worth of wine from Bargain Booze, on Derby Street, and the Co-op, on West Street, between Tuesday 7 January and Monday 13 January.

He was arrested by our officers on 13 January.

PC Adam Tonks, from Moorlands local policing team (LPT), said: “We welcome this sentence, which means that a prolific offender, whose actions have consistently impacted on the public and business premises alike, is behind bars.

“We’re continuing to use CBOs to impose conditions on prolific shoplifters across Staffordshire and to help signpost them to the right support agencies to help them stop their offending.

“Those who breach CBOs will be dealt with and brought before the courts.”
