Good evening,
So January has been a busy month for your Matlock Safer Neighbourhood Team. They have been visiting their schools delivering a variety of educational inputs to the younger people within their local communities.
They have visited St Joseph's Primary School for their Mini Police sessions delivering inputs around Anti-social behaviour, Hate Crime and County Lines. These subjects are extremely important and help our young people understand the differences between different types of behaviours, the consequences around them and how they affect people differently. It helps us to raise the awareness in young people and also to safeguard them.
They have visited Tansley Primary School delivering inputs around the Role of the Police and what they do. Showing them different types of uniform and equipment they use and why. They also showed them around a marked Police vehicle and explained what all of the equipment kept inside is used for.
They have visited St Giles Primary School delivering inputs around Internet Safety and Digital Footprints. Ensuring that young people know how to keep themselves safe online from viruses, malware and strangers. It also encourages them to go to their trusted adults should they have any worries or concerns about anything which they see or hear both on and offline.
They have visited Highfields School delivering County Lines inputs to the Year 8 students, ensuring that they know how to keep themselves safe in situations where strangers may try to befriend and exploit them, but also to ensure they know how to spot the signs in their friends. These inputs also ensure that the young people within our communities know how to report things correctly and safely and for them to know that we are here to keep them safe and to help them rather than criminalise them. It also ensures that they understand that safeguarding them in these types of situations is paramount!
They have also been conducting speed checks throughout areas of concern around Matlock and Tansley, despite set backs of snow and ice this month! They have been taking action when individuals have been found exceeding the speed limit. On 20th January checks were conducted on Chesterfield Road from 09.30am-10.00am. 119 vehicles were checked during this time and none were found to be speeding. They then went on to the A615 Tansley from 10.10-10.40 and checked 79 vehicles. Only one was found to be exceeding the speed limit at 42mph. The driver was spoken to firmly and issued with the relevant paper work.
Our team will continue conducting these speed checks where resources and weather permits and over the coming weeks will not only be checking for speeds, but will also be checking that they have the correct documentation to be driving vehicles such as driving licenses, insurance etc. They will also be checking vehicles are road worthy and safe. They will be checking that road users are wearing seatbelts and not using mobile devices. They will also be ensuring that our road users are not driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Any individuals not complying to any of the above, will be dealt with accordingly.
Are you interested in doing something about speeding in your area? Can you spare an hour every so often to monitor speeds? Why not volunteer to help reduce speeding in your community by becoming a member of Community Speed Watch?
