What’s been happening?

The Smithswood and Chelmsley Wood Neighbourhood Team have been out in the Town Centre bus interchange and working with the WMP Safer Travel Team to combat and deter crime on the buses. Over the last couple of months, we have received numerous calls for service when youths have caused criminal damage by either throwing items at, or pushing windows out of, moving buses. This behaviour could endanger many lives and will not be tolerated, CCTV shows these offenders and lines of enquiries are being followed.

This week we were joined by Special Constable Hollis-Straw who volunteers to help our team. She arrested a female who was wanted for a serious domestic assault.

Male was arrested for a shop theft. This male was only just given a suspended 12 week court sentence for recent shop thefts.

Also this week we seized a moped that was stolen nearby the day before. An eagle-eyed member of the public saw the moped surrounded by a group. Unfortunately the group had cleared, but the moped was recovered for their owner. During its recovery, we witnessed a domestic incident and a male had to be arrested to prevent a Breach of the Peace. He was brought to custody where he caused damage to a book in his cell. He appeared in court the next day and received a fine.

Please keep the information coming, if you know where these nuisance bikes are stored and can give descriptions of bikes and riders we can collate & compare with footage we already have from parks and dash cameras. You can report this information anonymously through Crimestoppers if you don’t want to call 101 or email smithswood@westmidlands.police.uk
