Mobile phone text scam

⚠️ We have recently been made aware of a local resident having been in receipt of a mobile phone text scam.

The text was sent, proporting to be the son/daughter of the receiver, stating that they had recently changed their phone provider/number.

They then went on to state that they needed to make a payment today, which could not wait until their new number cleared on their banking app, and could they make the payment for them and they would re-emburse them when the app had updated.

❗ Please stay alert for these type of messages.

Messaging apps are great for keeping in touch, but when you get a text out of the blue from an unknown number, can you trust who it is?

🤡 Fraudsters will impersonate loved ones, ask for funds and put pressure on their victims to send money.

📞 Always check by calling, facetiming or contacted another person to check the legitimacy of the messages.
