During the last month we have been made aware of 2 incidents, whereby men have arranged to meet after matching on a dating app. Having gone to a pre-arranged meeting point agreed by both parties, they have been set upon and had their cars stolen. These men have also been violently attacked during their ordeals. This has been in the Bolton area and more precisely in the area around Moss Bank Park and Barrow Bridge carparks.
Greater Manchester Police are currently investigating these incidents and have linked a number of teenage offenders to these crimes. That’s not to say that this may not happen again and in similar locations.
Can I ask that ANYONE who is considering meeting on a dating app, whether male or female, to take on board the very relevant safety points listed below. Please read these before considering any potential meetings. Although these points seem to be very basic, we feel the need to remind the public, that worldly wise adults are just as much at risk of these sorts of offences as any younger members of the public. High visibility patrols are now being conducted in and around the area of Moss Bank Park and Barrow Bridge areas at present during the late afternoon/evening times. Any reports of suspicious activity will be investigated, and vehicles and their occupants will be checked. With this in mind please be patient if patrols do come to speak with you. It is better to be safe than sorry. We thank you for your co-operation during the coming weeks. | ||||
