Sexting Prevention Campaign

Good afternoon / Pnawn da,

Over the last 3 weeks we have been raising awareness on the dangers of sexting,  or “sending nudes”, the common terms used for the taking and distributing of indecent images of children.

We produced some fantastic educational posters for our primary and secondary schools. The bilingual posters showed both male and female victims, and were shared with pupils, staff, and parents to raise awareness.

We recognised that young people aren’t always keen to discuss the issues around sexting in company of their peers, and it was important to get their views on how they view the current issues. A Bilingual survey was forwarded to schools across North Wales, which provided valuable feedback from over 800 pupils.

Our team created some fantastic key messages, which have been shared throughout the campaign on our NWP Young Persons Hub Facebook page.

My schools police colleagues and I have delivered numerous sexting inputs and assemblies during the campaign, and since September, we have now delivered a total of:

  • 161 ‘Risky Pics’ inputs to 4030 pupils and 226 adults (who were present during these inputs).
  • 21 assemblies have also been delivered to 1249 pupils between Yrs 6 and 11
  • We hope that the above has continued to raise awareness and given our young people an opportunity to voice their concerns and report sexting. We encourage parents and carers to engage with their children around this topic, to ensure they are aware of such dangers.

    Kind regards

    Pc Lee Woodworth
