Hi Resident If you find this information helpful please “rate” this message at the bottom (very quick and simple).
South Wight Neighbourhood Team have been busy on Patrol. PCSO Webb noted noise coming from the underpass at Sandown Train Station and there was a strong smell of cannabis lingering in the area. He was on his own at the time and called for backup. Sgt Sharland and PC Trickey were in the immediate area and proceeded to assist at the station.
The group attempted to run from Officers but we're stopped by PCSO Webb on the stairwell with support from Sgt Sharland and PC Trickey. All four were detained under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and these searches led to the recovery of multiple bags of cannabis. Two of the group will be interviewed before being referred to the Youth Justice Service who work as a multi-agency partnership set up under the direction of the Police, Probation, Education and Health to work with young people aged 10 to 17 and to address factors that lead to offending behaviour.
PC Trickey and Sgt Sharland also completed a stop search on a vehicle and driver on Culver Parade earlier in the evening, again using Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. No formal action was taken with the driver but advice was given following the discovery of drugs paraphernalia.
These searches took place during targeted Operation Antidote patrols. Operation Antidote is our response to your mandate from the #LetsTalk Survey - asking to target use and supply of controlled drugs. Your local Police team are actively patrolling areas in Sandown, Shanklin, Lake and Ventnor both on foot, and cycle and we are committed to tackling substance misuse and addiction that can be the driving factor to crime and anti-social behaviour in our communities.
PCSO Webb
