Crime Alert - Scam or Fraud

Dear resident,

Humberside Police are investigating a Scam/Fraud incident that took place over the last 5-6 weeks

A male, described as a white male, aged around 19 years old, slim with dark hair, has been visiting address, claiming to have cleaned windows. He has then charged over inflated prices of £40, even though the occupants haven't asked for the work to be done.

The male has also climbed over locked back gates, and walked into addresses asking for payment.

If you have any information, CCTV footage or stills of this male, please contact 101 quoting log 131 21/02/2025.

Incidents involving Fraud and Scams are increasing, and only 1 in 7 incidents are being reported to the Police.

To reduce the risk of becoming a victim of a fraud/scam, please read through the below advice.

  • Be suspicious of all ‘too good to be true’ offers and deals.
  • Don't hand over money or sign anything before getting appropriate advice.
  • Be very weary of ‘cold callers’ either on the phone, or in person.
  • Never give out you bank details or PIN to anyone. Your bank and the Police WILL NOT ask for this.
  • Don't withdraw money if asked to do so by anyone, again, your bank and the Police WILL NOT ask you to do this.
  • Don't be embarrassed to report a fraud/scam, by reporting what has happened, you make it more difficult for a fraudster to deceive someone else. You can report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online at Action Fraud
  • In relation to Fraud or Scams remember to TAKE FIVE

STOP - Take a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information. It could keep you safe

CHALLENGE - Ask yourself, could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.

PROTECT - Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve been scammed and report it to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk or on 0330 123 2040.

For more information relating to scams, please find attached a copy of the little book of big scams, and also the Police Crime Prevention Handbook which covers a broad range of crime prevention advice.

    Thank you
