Rural Community Forum Minutes - 29/01/2025

Good afternoon,

It was lovely to speak with local residents during the most recent Rural Community Forum taking place on Wednesday 29th January 2025 in Deddington. Below are the minutes taken from the meeting where we discussed local priorities.

Banbury Rural Community forum minutes

Key priorities:

  • Speeding (20 mph zones)
  • E-Scooter use/enforcement
  • Parking near schools
  • Car theft/burglary/other theft
  • Speeding:

  • Community Speed watch has been identified as a successful method of speeding prevention. Areas discussed with well organised speed watch schemes have seen a reduction in reportable vehicles.
  • For more information on the Community Speed Watch please see: https://www.thamesvalley-pcc.gov.uk/get-involved/community-speedwatch/
  • Parking:

  • Parking in the areas surrounding schools continue to be a local priority. Discussed Banbury NHPT school patrols which are conducted during beginning & end of school. This is being managed alongside other priorities and the resources available on the Neighbourhood Policing Team.
  • Residents have requested that patrols are continued and more schools visited.
  • E-Scooter enforcement:

  • Residents are interested in E-Scooter enforcement and about the legality of E-Scooter use - more information provided on attached documents.
  • E-Scooter operations are being conducted every month. For example, an operation on 18th January was conducted and resulted in 3 E-Scooters being seized in addition to other vehicles for no insurance.
  • Car theft/burglary/other theft:

  • Concern was raised by some during the forum of vehicle theft, interference and other related crimes in rural areas. These have been recognised as a priority and the Neighbourhood team are increasing police visibility in our rural communities as a response.
  • Operation VAMOOSE is being conducted in rural areas across Oxfordshire. This involves rural patrols during late evenings/nights in order to detect, prevent and intervene/enforce in rural thefts and other crime.
  • On 30/01/2025 the Banbury Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted a joint operation with Warwickshire Police, increasing police presence in rural communities in both areas. Further joint operations are being discussed.
  • Arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing into a series of vehicle thefts across the region. Updates on this will be shared through media release where possible.
