Student wins BSL poster competition

Resident,

A talented young artist from the Royal School for the Deaf Derby has won our force competition to design a poster for our new 101 BSL app.

The competition was run by Pete, our Disability Engagement Officer, and Youth Engagement Officer Leverington. It invited students from the Royal School for the Deaf in Derby to design their own poster advertising the services of the new BSL reporting app.

A number of fantastic artworks were submitted, and with tough competition we decided on four runners up, and an overall winner.

The winners of the competition were announced this week, with prizes given to the students for their talented works.

The final poster design can be seen attached and was drawn by a talented student who will now see their drawing across Derbyshire on posters advertising the service.

We have been developing new ways for our Deaf or Hard of Hearing communities to contact us, including the new 101 BSL app.

Via the SignVideo app, BSL users can call an interpreter who will contact 101 and relay the conversation from BSL to English to the call handler in our control room.

The app can also contact our 999 call handlers via 999 BSL, helping our communities in their time of need.
