You are probably aware that since the last message was sent out there have been further large grass fires which have been deliberately ignited on some of Gower commons here are to name but a few:-

Ryers down , Hardingdsdown ,Cefn Bryn , Pengwern , Fairwood .

As stated these were very large fires, which seriously effected land which is SSSI ( Site of Special Scientific interest) a formal conservation designation.

Deliberately lighting fires without formal permission to do so is ARSON which is a criminal offence. In all probability the fires are being deliberately being started to promote growth for grazing animals.

We have liaised with partnership agencies in relation to predicting when the fires are likely to be started , therefore we will be looking at ways to combat this issue as well as identify the culprits,  such as deploying drones and extra patrols in the designated areas at risk.

Setting illegal grass fires is a serious crime and could leave you with a Criminal Record.  If you see anyone setting fires, please call the Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
