We have been made aware that two unknown males have been in the area impersonating workmen from Rossendale Borough Council.

The men are stating that they can clean the occupants windows for free but require access to the property to clean the windows inside. They were not wearing uniform and didn't have ID, however are showing their phones to say that they have been told to do the work in the area. Rossendale Borough Council have confirmed that they are not offering this service. 

If you have anyone call at your home address posing as workmen or offering services you have not arranged then please ring 101 to report this. Below are a few simple steps to keep yourself safe from cold callers. 

- ALWAYS ask for ID- If they are genuine callers they will have ID and be happy for you to have a look at it. If you're still unsure contact the company they are from to confirm they are in the area. 

- Don't be embarrassed to say “NO” or ask people to leave your property. 

- Set up a password with your utility providers so you can verify their authenticity.

- Display a 'No cold callers' sign in your window or on your front door.
