Dear Resident, A man has been sentenced following a series of moped thefts across Cambridge. Detectives launched an investigation following the thefts of more than 300 mopeds, low powered motorcycles and electric bikes/scooters, worth more than £450,000, in 2022. Officers identified a group of people suspected to be involved in some of the crimes, including 53-year-old Mark Bailey, of Nuttings Road.
A warrant was carried out at his home in December 2022 where a number of stolen vehicles were recovered along with a mobile phone containing evidence linking him to selling on the stolen items. At Cambridge Crown Court yesterday (26 February), Bailey was sentenced to 20 months in prison, suspended for two years after pleading guilty to five counts of handling stolen goods. He must also carry out 200 hours unpaid work. Three other men have also been sentenced and three teenage boys are due to be sentenced at a later date. You can read more on our website. Kind Regards, Detective Constable Antonio Fernandez Serious Crime Team | ||||
