Hello Resident,

Your local neighbourhood police officer here with an important update about the ongoing Firearms Amnesty campaign. This is the last day of the campaign, so please read below and act fast.

From 3rd to 28th February 2025, Greater Manchester Police (GMP), alongside other UK police forces, is running a national firearms amnesty. This initiative focuses on removing Turkish Manufactured Top-Venting Blank Firers (TVBF) from circulation. These firearms, while originally legal, are now classified as illegal under the Firearms Act 1968 due to their potential for conversion into dangerous weapons.

What You Need to Know:

No Prosecution During Amnesty: If you surrender a TVBF during this period, you will not face prosecution. However, after the amnesty ends, possession of these firearms could result in up to 10 years’ imprisonment.

How to Surrender: You can hand in these firearms at the front desks of police stations across Greater Manchester (Cheadle Heath Police Station being the closest to us). To ensure safety:
- Place the firearm in a bag or box to keep it out of public sight.
- Make a specific journey solely for this purpose.
- Inform the station staff that you are there to surrender a firearm.

Why This Matters: TVBFs have been linked to serious criminal activities, including intimidation and mimicking genuine handguns. By participating in this amnesty, you’re helping to make Shaw Heath and Greater Manchester a safer place for everyone.
