March has only just started and your local Rurals policing team have been busy tacking issues in and round your Local Policing Area (or LPA as we call it in the job) and we’ve had some great results so far. We’ve been working with local businesses around the Dorridge area to disrupt shoplifting much of which is being done by suspects coming into town via the train. We had great results the last time we targeted shoplifters in Dorridge so we thought we’d have another go, this time we were joined by store detectives from Sainsbury’s and we’ve made numerous high-profile arrests with one suspect being sent back to prison, we’re currently awaiting the courts to determine their sentencing. Our officers also made an arrest in Balsall Common after witnessing someone who had clearly drank too much alcohol attempt to order a takeout and drive away, this person will now be facing a lengthy driving ban for their choices, we’d also like to take a moment to say that whilst we appreciate people will want to enjoy the sun with a drink now its starting to feel like winter is over; the dangers of driving whilst under the influence. Alcohol will impair your ability to drive in a safe and effective manner and can result in you running the very real risk of either injuring yourself or someone else or even worse; resulting in someone losing their life. It really isn’t worth it. And finally, onto some good news, CRUFTS is back at the NEC between the 6th and 9th of March and your local Rurals officers will be attending! In addition to us patrolling and aiding security around the event our specialist team of Dog handlers based here in Balsall Common will be there demonstrating the exceptional skills of our Dog units on the Sunday as well as presenting the Police Dog Team Operational and Humanitarian Action of the Year Award! Its looking to be a great show and if you’re going then we look forward to seeing you there!
