Murder investigation launched in Wolverhampton

Dear Resident

You have probably seen coverage around a murder inquiry which has launched following a shooting in the city yesterday.

We were called to Eastfield Grove just after 3.20pm on Tuesday 4 March, where a man in his 20s was found with serious injuries. Despite the best efforts of our first officers to arrive, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. A second man, also in his 20s, is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

A major investigation has been launched and the area around Eastfield Grove was cordoned off while we carried out all of the necessary investigations.

We appreciate that the location is very close to local schools and our officers and partners have been in regular contact with the school to offer support, advice and guidance.

Detectives and local officers have been in the area this afternoon to speak with parents who may have witnessed part of yesterday’s events or may have been affected by the incident.

We will continue to work with the school alongside our partners in the local authority to ensure the welfare of all concerned.

Our investigation into the shooting is at a very early stage but we believe this to be a targeted attack.

We will have local officers carrying out additional patrols in the area to reassure and support the local community over the coming days and we urge anyone with concerns or information to contact us.

If you saw anything, or have mobile phone, doorbell or dashcam footage, get in touch with us as soon as possible via 101 or Live Chat, quoting 3288 of 04/03.

We've set up a dedicated website where you can send video, images and other information. Please visit: https://mipp.police.uk/operation/20HQ24A24-PO1

You can also offer ongoing support to our local policing enquiries by registering your CCTV with us, should we need it in the future. See more: https://www.westmidlands.police.uk/police-forces/west-midlands-police/areas/campaigns/campaigns/cctv-registry/
