BT Digital Voice - Volunteer support role

Over the course of the past six months, NHW members have volunteered to support informal ‘drop-in’ advice/information meetings across Englannd and Wales. These events have aimed to advise people about the switch to Digital Voice which involves the home phone service being delivered via the internet when the analogue/copper wire home phone service is decommissioned in January 2027. Thousands of people already use a digital home phone service.

During Autumn 2024, a series of ‘drop-in’ sessions were held in various Wiltshire towns and were supported by a small group of willing volunteers, whose efforts were very much appreciated by those people who attended the meetings. Details of three more meetings are outlined below:

Purton Library   Tuesday 20th May 2025   2pm - 4pm

Marlborough Library   Thursday 22nd May 2025   10am - 1pm

Wroughton Library   Friday 23rd May 2025 10am - 1pm

If you are interested in supporting any of the above events, please do get in touch.

A brief overview…

* It is hoped to have two volunteers support each event.

* Each event will last 3 to 4 hours.

* BT online training will be provided that takes between 60 and 90 minutes.

* BT resource materials are provided to support the ‘drop-in’ session.

* Volunteers are not expected to have technical knowledge, but rather be able to reassure the public that there are solutions to any perceived problems that may arise from the switch from analogue to digital voice.

* A Whats App technical support link to BT is available for use by volunteers.

* An attendee evaluation process is available

* All expenses will be reimbursed.

If you are interested in supporting the above events and would like more information, please do contact Emily Barker who is the South-West Region Digital Voice Volunteer Co-ordinator on
