A man has been sentenced to two years for domestic abuse-related offences that took place in Trowbridge. Mohammed Baig, 43, of Headfield Road, Savile Town, Dewsbury, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court for controlling/coercive behaviour, assault, and dangerous driving on February 24 after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing. On August 8, 2024, Baig was travelling with the victim in this investigation on the M42 when he punched her in the head so hard that the car moved. Throughout their relationship, Baig demonstrated a pattern of controlling and coercive behaviour towards the victim, which included taking money from her, controlling her spending, taking her phone, and making threats. On August 26, 2024, Baig followed the victim in this investigation when she refused to speak to him. His driving was found to be dangerous as he followed her with a witness describing him as swerving over the road in front and behind the victim.
Local Crime Investigator O'Harney said, "Mohammed Baig inflicted a campaign of misery on this woman, so I am really pleased that he has been sent to prison as a result. “I want to thank the victim in this case for her support of our investigation. Reporting domestic abuse is such a difficult thing to do, and seeing a court process through is even harder. “But she has done both, and though nothing will take away the memories of these events, I hope the conclusion of this case provides her with some comfort. “Tackling violence against women and girls remains a priority for Wiltshire Police, and we will continue working hard, not only to put people like Mohammed Baig behind bars but also to make people like this woman feel empowered to report this type of abuse to us.” If you are suffering from abuse or suspect someone you know is, please contact us on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
