Dear Resident
***********Please note the Burglary in Sharmans Close took place on the 8th March between 7pm and 10.17pm***********
We have seen a small increase in burglaries across Welwyn East and Welwyn West in the last couple of months. Please be extra vigilant and do report any suspicious activity or suspicious behaviour in the area, this could be in relation to people or vehicles.
Please call 999 if a crime is in progress or 101 if you would like to report suspicious vehicles or suspicious people in the area.
You will see me out and about on my regular patrols, if you would like to speak to me then please stop me to have a chat or email me direct at anne.devine@herts.police.uk with any intel or concerns in the local area.
As the weather gets warmer it is tempting to leave car windows and house windows open to allow for fresh air but please do remember to close these if your car and house are unattended as a crime prevention measure and don`t leave anything on show in your vehicle. If you are going to be away for a period of time please consider timer switches for your lights and speak to neighbours to keep an eye on your property whilst you are away, or if possible ask them to drop in and pick up the post and draw curtains in the evening and open in the morning and don`t forget to cancel your milk and newspaper deliveries.
Try your best to make it look like someone is at home whilst it is vacant. There are some hints and tips below.
Tips to prevent burglary: Check downstairs windows and doors are securely locked before you leave or go to bed. Use a “Fake TV” or timer switches on lamps to give the impression someone is at home. Don’t leave keys, phones or other valuables on windowsills or in any other visible place. Secure UPVC doors by lifting the handle and locking it to engage the security features. Consider using a doorbell camera, interior camera or a monitored burglar alarm. Securely lock rear gates, sheds and garages. Keep tools and ladders locked away, as they could be used to break into your home.
