PC Dave Olczak and PC Paul Slaymaker were on foot patrol in Church Street this morning when they spotted some elderly pedestrians struggling to squeeze past a car that had parked outside Oxfam leaving about half a metre passing room. It was also on double yellow lines. The vehicle was left unattended. After a minute and a half the owner returned to the vehicle and was issued with a ticket for obstructing the path. As she drove off, the driver wheel span and left at speed up the road. This caused a number of pedestrians to turn and look what was going on. This also caused the officers to pay the driver a visit to home address to issue her with a section 59 notice. A section 59 notice is something that is served on a driver and their vehicle when they use the vehicle in an anti-social manner. The notice is valid for 12 months and means that if the driver is found driving any vehicle in an antisocial manner in the next 12 months, then that vehicle will be seized. It also means that anyone driving the vehicle served with the notice in an antisocial manner in the next 12 months could result in that vehicle being seized. Section 59 notices are a great tool for reducing antisocial driving and making the offender think twice about the manner of their driving. |
