Advice - Nuisance Calls

Dear Resident,

 

Continuous phone calls from unwanted callers can be very annoying, some of these will be targeted the more vulnerable people in our communities.

 

Examples of these types of calls include - Telemarketing calls, research calls, Silent calls, recorded messages and scam calls. All of these types of calls are made for a purpose, which is to try to get you to buy something.

 

Please read the advice below to assist you to deal with these types of calls -

 

  • Register free with the Telephone Preference Service, this allows you to opt out of unsolicited sales and marketing calls.
  • Block unwanted numbers on your mobile phone.
  • Don't engage in a conversation and just hang up.
  • Never give out personal information
  • Consider using a blocking service on your landline or mobile phone.
  • If you receive threatening or abusive calls, report them to the Police.
